"As a therapist I love the moments when students find realizations that they can implement in their lives because they recognize the value in the work we are doing together. What therapeutic book do you live by?
I know it may seem somewhat cliché to reference Brené Brown in the field of social work, but her book "Daring Greatly" has had a profound impact on my leadership approach in clinical practice. It has instilled in me the importance of embracing vulnerability for the right reasons, leading by example, and viewing progress as an ongoing state of authenticity rather than a final destination. Brown's insights have shaped my understanding of the significance of vulnerability in fostering meaningful connections and creating a nurturing environment for growth. Her emphasis on wholehearted living and the courage to show up as our true selves has greatly influenced my approach to leadership and my commitment to the therapeutic process.

What Therapeutic book do you live by?
A favorite therapy book is The Happiness Trap by Russ Harris. Harris is one of the founders of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, my favorite modality. The premise is that we are being sold a lie in western culture, that if we're not always happy, something is very very wrong. This runs counter to reality, such as, if a loved one dies, I'd be far more concerned were you fighting to be happy, instead of allowing yourself to grieve, especially since your loved one is probably worth grieving! The book offers a roadmap through allowing whatever feelings we're experiencing as a natural outgrowth of the human experience (one might argue our wide ranging emotions are what make us human). Allow our emotions and move forward in a valued direction despite the emotions.

What are you passionate about as a mental health provider?
As a therapist, I am passionate about the population of young adults that we serve. I am also passionate in regards to trying new approaches to reach and create therapeutic relationships with individuals who have been treatment and/or therapy resistant in the past. "I've had student's come to me and say "I hate therapy, I am not going to do therapy" and it is such an awesome experience when, weeks later, the student is in my office talking to me about their week and, with or without realizing, is DOING therapy."
What do you enjoy about your role at Integrated?
As a program therapist at Integrated, I enjoy having the ability to spend time with students in their day-to-day lives as they navigate both familiar and unfamiliar situations. I enjoy having the ability to assist them in processing and finding solutions that work for them and their future goals within the space of therapy."As the program therapist, it is unique that I am able to engage with clients as they engage in regular daily activities such as: cleaning, cooking, watching television, putting their makeup on, getting ready for job interviews/work, etc. This allows space for therapeutic work and questions to happen outside of the traditional therapy office."
What therapeutic book do you live by?
A book that I have found very relevant to my therapeutic work is “The Body Keeps the Score” by Bessel Van Der Kolk, M.D.. As a provider, I tend to look through a trauma lens when working with clients. Many of the clients that I serve have been through traumatic experiences and/or have a diagnosis associated with trauma. While there is no way to measure traumatic experiences, this book explains the importance of recognizing these adverse experiences and their impact on our whole selves. It also recognizes that we have the ability to develop an understanding of our physiological reactions and choices, so that we can create a response and understanding that better serves where we are going, or trying to go, in the future.

What are you passionate about as a mental health provider?
“Something I am passionate about as a therapist is the ability to get to know people and have authentic conversations. As a therapist, I can assist people as they work through emotional burdens, and personal challenges and I can help them achieve a healthier mindset.”
What do you enjoy about your role at Integrated?
“It has been my experience in the mental health field that people are often controlled and/or expected not to make mistakes. Integrated understands that people make mistakes, and we use those mistakes as continued learning opportunities. The way Integrated utilizes natural consequence allows space for the students to have autonomy as well as support and guidance as they go through the next steps of their journey.”
What therapeutic book do you live by?
"A therapeutic book I have been deeply inspired by would be Brene Brown’s “The Gift’s of Imperfection.” It has allowed me to genuinely and vulnerably practice what it means to not only be authentic but to embrace that authenticity. Reading and applying some of the invaluable lessons learned has allowed me to release self judgment and allow myself to experience belonging in its more true form. This has impacted my work by allowing me to see the value in empathy, and adopting the methodology of living for ourselves, and not other people."
